A Multi-Generational House in Uthai Thani with Recycled Wood Facades

March 12, 2025

The Uthai Thani House in Thailand was designed by I Like Design Studio to meet the retirement needs of its owner. Raised in a traditional farming family, the owner decided to return to her hometown after years of living in Bangkok and build a house that would fulfill both her and her father’s desires. Her father values wooden design and natural ventilation, preferring a simple, air-conditioned-free space, while the owner prefers a modern and contemporary home.

The design of the house is such that it meets the father’s desires on one hand while providing comfort and modern amenities for the owner on the other. The living space is designed with natural light and proper ventilation, and a large, traditional kitchen has been created to align with the family’s cooking habits. The father’s bedroom is located on the ground floor and is designed to have natural ventilation, providing a safe and secure space for him.

On the second floor, the owner’s master bedroom features a spacious balcony with views of the rice fields. Additionally, the house is constructed using old wood that the owner’s father had collected, and the design combines traditional warmth with modern aesthetics. Overall, the house is designed in a way that allows both generations to live together in harmony and comfort.
