“Book Review and Critique Session of ‘Summoning the Invisible: A Narrative of Bahram Shirdel’s Architecture'”

March 4, 2025

The book “Summoning the Invisible ” is a narrative of the of Bahram Shirdel’s Architecture, one of the most well-known Iranian architects and professors of the 20th and 21st centuries, who has had a significant impact on the architectural movement in the United States and the history of contemporary architectural discipline. Although Shirdel can be considered an inheritor to western architectural structures, he has introduced new manifestations in his works by creating transformations and fundamental changes.

Shirdel, while adhering to the tradition of architecture and believing in the deep connection between past and present architects, strives to create a new structure that not only challenges meanings but also transforms the themes of past architecture, simultaneously. By moving beyond the boundaries of modernist architecture, which seeks beauty solely in visible elements, he pays special attention to the invisible layers and hidden aspects of architecture.

The book “Summoning the Invisible: A Narrative of Bahram Shirdel’s Architecture” written by Leila Akbari was first published in 2025 with 450 pages, priced at 520,000 Toman, by Nazar publication.

It is hoped that the analysis presented in this book of Shirdel’s works will serve as an inspiration—even though a small one—for the readers to gain a deeper understanding of the structural and educational features embedded in his works.
