The Grand Renovation of the Louvre Museum: New Entrance and Exclusive Mona Lisa Gallery

February 22, 2025

The Louvre Museum in Paris has begun a major renovation, including the creation of a new entrance and extensive restorations throughout the museum. This project comes in response to concerns raised by the museum director about the building’s inadequate condition, including maintenance issues, insufficient space, and leaks. The new entrance will be designed on the eastern facade of the museum and will be connected to the underground spaces. Additionally, the Mona Lisa will be moved to an exclusive gallery. The project will be completed by 2031 and will cost approximately $400 million. The costs will be covered through the museum’s own revenues and international contributions, and ticket prices for non-European visitors will increase starting January 2026.
