The Leaves Residential Tower: Inspiration from Nature and Sustainable Architecture on the Albanian Coast

March 17, 2025

The Leaves residential tower, designed by davide Macullo Architects, is a blend of sustainable architecture and nature, located on the Albanian coast.. This organic tower seamlessly integrates with its environment, using rotating volumes and three-dimensional geometric planters. Inspired by nature and sustainable design, the tower, located in Vlore on the Albanian Riviera, consists of two interlocking volumes that rotate, creating reflective surfaces for Mediterranean light. Its three-dimensional façade features geometric planters that allow plants to take root within the architecture, while prefabricated concrete panels, shaded in five colors, reflect the natural hues of the four seasons.

The structure of this tower, inspired by the geological features of the site between the sea and mountains, draws from the natural forces of the earth. Its design is not only in harmony with the location but also promotes a philosophy of building in sync with nature. The protruding elements of the tower’s facade resemble tree leaves, providing shade from the sun in the summer and allowing sunlight to enter the spaces during the winter.

In this project, modern technologies have been avoided, and sustainability is achieved through architectural elements. The design of the building’s facade responds to the surrounding nature with its rotation and geometric movements, forming a spiral alignment that harmonizes with the environment.
