Transforming Dubai Expo into a novel and sustainable model for urban living

February 27, 2025

The Expo 2020 Dubai site is being transformed into a new urban center. This project is part of Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan and involves integrating the main structures of the Expo with new developments to create a harmonious and attractive area. The project aims to utilize existing infrastructure and buildings while maximizing the value of previous investments.

This 3.5 square kilometer development is designed to accommodate over 35,000 residents and 37,000 professionals while maintaining the capacity to host approximately 50,000 annual visitors. The master plan includes five new districts: Expo Downtown, Expo Fields, Expo Hills, Expo Business, and Expo Valley. Each district incorporates a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational elements.

The main focus is on creating green and public spaces. The landscape design includes extensive green areas, water features, and the planting of over 30,000 native trees. This project pursues sustainability goals by striving to achieve LEED Gold and BREEAM Excellent certifications. The integration of the Dubai Exhibition Center helps improve connectivity and activities within the site, while promoting alternative transportation methods such as walking, cycling, and public transit.

With this development, Expo 2020 Dubai will transform into a more dynamic, harmonious, and beautiful urban center.
